The prestigious Golden Boy award’s nominations are out. The award is conferred upon a player under the age of 21 who has had an impressive season in Europe. The voters for the award are some of the most reputed Newspapers from around Europe, including the Bild from Germany, Marca from Spain, and The Times from England.
There are a total of hundred nominees for each year, with Borussia Dortmund securing three of the spots through Erling Haaland, Giovanni Reyna and Jadon Sancho. The duo are considered favourites for the award after their sublime domestic seasons.

Erling Haaland is only 19 years of age and has already scored 11 goals in his 12 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund. Prior to his January transfer to Dortmund, Haaland was tearing up the Austrian Football Bundesliga with RB Salzburg. He scored 16 goals for them in 14 appearances in the top tier, and 8 goals in 6 games in the UEFA Champions League. His outstanding goals per game ratio is what earned him his 18 million pound fee to Borussia Dortmund.
Jadon Sancho, on the other hand, had his breakout year in the 2018/19 campaign, when he scored 12 and assisted 17 goals. He has blown through the roof this season, already scoring 17 and assisting 17 with 3 games to go. He sits at the top of the goal+assists tally across Europe’s top 5 leagues with the likes of Lionel Messi and Ciro Immobile.
Having featured in 16 games, Giovanni Reyna has a goal and an assist in German Cup play against Werder Bremen. He has yet to make his first Bundesliga start for Lucien Favre’s squad, despite appearing off the bench frequently.
The pair are a force to reckon with, and it would be near impossible to imagine a situation where neither of them wins the Golden Boy award.
