One of the few bright outcomes of Borussia Dortmund’s loss against Hoffenheim was Tobias Raschl’s debut.
Raschl was the Captain of the Borussia Dortmund U-19 team and has finally made his Bundesliga debut for the senior team. The 20-year-old came on in the 65th minute when Dortmund were already trailing by 4 goals.
Raschl is a defensive midfielder who was relatively solid on his debut. In his 25 minutes on the pitch, he managed a successful pass completion rate of 88% and did not make any obvious errors. Overall, it was one of the few positives in what was otherwise a muddle of misery for Borussia Dortmund.
After the game, Raschl said he was happy and proud to make his debut for his childhood team, irrespective of the team’s performance on the day. He said, “In spite of the circumstances, it was a great feeling which I have been working towards all the time. I am happy and proud. Even though the result wasn’t good and we didn’t enjoy a nice end to the season, it was a next important step for me.”
He further added that his first-team debut was his primary objective for the season. He said, “It was an honour to make my professional debut for the club. Today was my goal for the whole year, even though it happened right at the very end. I have achieved my goal, it’s great for me and my family, we are really happy. I’m taking a lot from this year. I have learned a lot from great players, developed further and taken in a lot – and I’ll try to implement that in the future.“
