Reputed journalist, Fabrizio Romano was the first to break the news through his customary tweet. He tweeted, “The ‘Golden Boy 2020’ winner will be… Erling Haaland. The decision has been made, here-we-go. He’ll be awarded as the best young player in the world right now. Last winners: 2017 Mbappé, 2018 de Ligt, 2019 Joao Felix. Congrats @ErlingHaaland, the goal machine.”
In the 2019/20 season, he scored 44 goals. 28 of these were for RB Salzburg and the remaining 16 were for Borussia Dortmund. Since joining Dortmund in January, he has been a revelation for Lucien Favre.
He has become the first Norwegian to win the Golden Boy award. In 2020, he has played 34 games for his International team and Borussia Dortmund. In these 34 games, he has scored 33 goals, making an impressive goal per match record of 0.97.
He will be presented with the award on the 14th of December in Turin, Italy. Meanwhile, he will now turn his eyes to Dortmund’s visit to Hertha Berlin on Saturday night as he searches for more goals.
