Borussia Dortmund were back to their best after last week’s defeat to Bayern Munich, beating Paderborn by six goals to one.
Despite the 6-1 scoreline, the Black and Yellows did not have an easy game. Here we take you through a few talking points from the game.
NO DESIRE AFTER BAYERN DEFEAT
If the first half was supposed to be the summation of the game, many would have seen that Lucien Favre’s side had no desire to win the game.
Chances were not coming and players played with no urgency thinking the title is long gone having seen Bayern Munich taken a seven point lead.
However, the second half proved to be a very different game as Dortmund scored six times with Jadon Sancho proving vital.
JADON SANCHO – Back with a bang
With just three appearances after the suspension of the league, all coming from the bench, the player excelled in an unfamiliar role on Sunday.
Sancho was deployed as the false striker with Erling Braut Haaland missing out through injury. However, his new role seem too easy for him as he grabbed a second half hat-trick to produce a ‘Man of the Match’ award.
Sancho takes his league numbers to 17 goals and 16 assists in 27 appearances for Dortmund.
ACHRAF HAKIMI – Bounced back after a poor performance
Another player who got onto the party, Achraf Hakimi. After poor game Bayern Munich, the defender redeemed himself with some good performances on the right flank.
The Morocca international played 87 minutes and was arguably second to only Jadon Sancho who enjoyed a brilliant game. Hakimi scored from a Marcel Schmelzer pass to take his league goals to five.
MATEU MOREY – A debut worth it
Early days yet, but if the three minutes Mateu Morey played was anything to go by, Dortmund could be looking ahead for another sensational talent.
His short period on the pitch proved to be valuable as a provided the assist for Sancho’s third goal in added time to make it a convincing victory.
At just 20-years, Morey has a lot to play for and would be hoping for continued chances to earn the gaffer’s trust ahead of the departure of Hakimi.
MARCEL SCHMELZER
The evergreen cover to Dortmund’s left-back position was on the party train as well as he scored and assisted another in the win.
Marcel Schmelzer entered the game in the 80th minutes and had 10 minutes to show he has still got some his best side.
Turned a provider five minutes into the game and scored four minutes later to what could be a good performance from him.
