Borussia Dortmund fitness updates

Borussia Dortmund’s Managing Director, Michael Zorc, has offered some insight into some of the Borussia Dortmund stars’ fitness status. There were an equal amount of positives and negatives which we can take back from his press conference.

The positives:

  1. Thomas Delaney has returned to full fitness and will start training with the rest of the team on the 3rd of August. Delaney missed the last 4 games of the league owing to a muscular injury. He actually impressed in the latter half of the season, and Dortmund will be grateful to have him back.
  2. Manuel Akanji too has returned to full training after his recovery from his muscular injuries. He sustained the injury towards the end of the season, which caused him to miss the last 3 games of the season. Mahmoud Dahoud is expected back in training after making a full recovery from his knee injury “in the next few days”.

The negatives:

  1. Mats Hummels has injured his ankle on holiday, which may cause a slight delay in reintegrating him into training. Thankfully, it isn’t a serious worry, and he should be ready to join the team’s training camp in Switzerland.
  2. Zorc failed to offer any update on Marco Reus’s tendon injury. Reus was initially expected to be fit for pre-season, however, a recent update from the club said that he will be out for an extended period. Zorc said, “With him. Unfortunately, the hoped-for improvement has not yet occurred. It is difficult to make a forecast.
