The following injury updates have been released for Dan-Axel Zagadou and Nico Schulz:
Dan-Axel Zagadou
Michael Zorc, BVB’s Sporting Director, revealed that Dan-Axel Zagadou would not require an operation on his knee. He said, “Zagadou can be treated conservatively. The worst case, an operation, is not required.” He told Kicker that although the Frenchman will not be out for months, it will not be a matter of a few days.
Sebastian Kehl, head of first-team football, offered another update to the club’s official website. He said, “He’s still struggling with a knee injury and will be out for a little while longer. It’s annoying that the lateral ligament injury is keeping him out. It’s difficult to say exactly, but it will take a few weeks.
This means that although Zagadou is not ruled out for a long time, he definitely will not be fit for the club’s first competitive game against MSV Duisburg in the first round of the DFB-Pokal Cup on 14/09/20.
Nico Schulz
Nico Schulz picked up a calf injury in the pre-season game against Paderborn, which caused him to drop out of his international commitments with the German National side. Instead of joining his national team, he will stay at Dortmund in order to boost his recovery.
Apart from the above two defenders, there is also an update on Mahmoud Dahoud, BVB’s number 8. He will be fit for the pre-season friendly against Sparta Rotterdam on Monday.
