Injury Update: Thorgan Hazard is out for several weeks

Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach saw many positives, however, Thorgan Hazard’s injury managed to dampen the optimism just a little.

Hazard was playing as a deputy for Raphael Guerreiro at the left wing-back squad and was forced off the pitch as early as the 19th minute owing to a torn muscle.

Borussia Dortmund later clarified through an official statement that Hazard will be out for “several weeks on the sidelines“. This is a big blow to BVB as they are without Raphael Guerreiro and Thorgan Hazard, their 2 primary choices at the left-wing/wing-back role.

However, Guerreiro is expected to return to full training very soon, which means he could be in contention for a place in the starting lineup within the next 2 weeks.

The most interesting aspect of Hazard’s injury during the game was his replacement, Felix Passlack. Passlack had not made a single appearance for Dortmund in over 3 years, yet when he was asked to fill in for Hazard, he thoroughly impressed.

BVB’s Sporting Director, Michael Zorc, was full of praise for Passlack. He said, “I was personally very happy for him, he was rewarded for giving his best from the first day of training. He did his job really well. We are glad that he is with us.” Manager, Lucien Favre, was delighted too. He said, “Felix did an excellent job, he played a really good game. I’m very happy for him.

Passlack is likely to start at the left wing-back spot against Augsburg on 26/09/20.
