Borussia Dortmund veteran, Lukasz Piszczek returned to training on Sunday. After BVB’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Augsburg on Saturday, a few players including the Polish defender returned to training.
Piszczek had a sore back, which ruled him out of the first 2 Bundesliga games of the season. However, he should be fit for Dortmund’s next game.
Lucien Favre will be pleased to have him back in time for the DFL-Supercup final against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Dortmund’s lackluster defensive showing against Augsburg on the weekend has prompted discussion on changes required in the lineup.
Thomas Meunier and Emre Can’s performances were substandard against Augsburg, and Piszczek can replace either one of them in the back 5. If Favre would want to stick with the back 3, then Piszczek is likely to replace Emre, whereas if there is a switch to a back 4, Meunier will probably lose his spot at right-back.
Various media reports and discussions amongst the fans have revealed that Axel Witsel could quite literally get the “axe” for the Supercup final. The Belgian midfielder was not good enough in the clash against Augsburg, and Thomas Delaney could come in for him.
