Out of contract world cup winner, Mario Gotze has not ruled out staying in the Bundesliga. The German’s contract at Borussia Dortmund recently expired, and the club and he mutually agreed not to extend his contract.
Gotze has reportedly been the subject of various clubs around Europe as well as the MLS in America. However, he does not wish to move to the MLS yet. Various clubs such as Fiorentina and AS Monaco have been linked to Gotze.
In a recent interview with Kicker, a German media outlet, Gotze revealed the following about his future:
Whether money matters:
“The financial aspect plays an ancillary role for me. The truly important factors for me are the athletic ones.”
The desire to win the UCL:
“I absolutely want to win the Champions League. That drives me every day. I don’t want to end my career without having won that title at least once.”
On his future club:
“I’ve spoken with several clubs and coaches in the past weeks. I never said that I had to leave the Bundesliga. There are plenty of ambitious clubs in Germany.”
A target date:
“October 5th is the date in my head, on which I wish to have greater clarity about my future. I really want to play football again. The sooner the better.“
